FROM REAL WORK. FOR YOUR WORK.

Small ideas.
More possibilities.

Sometimes a snippet is enough. Sometimes you need a good tool. Find both here, with context, sources and a clear path to trying them out.

MY PLUGINS. MY APPROACH.

A natural fit.
Calm in everyday use.

Why my plugins should complement WordPress thoughtfully — and what happens when a prerequisite is missing.

01 · ANOTHER WAY TO USE THE SAME HELPER

Prefer a snippet?

These three active plugins include a dedicated snippet edition in the checked release.

01ZIP · JSON / PHP

Shortcode Item Updated

Display content update dates with a shortcode. Imports for Code Snippets and FluentSnippets, plus PHP to paste.

v2.3.1 · Run everywhereDownload snippet ↓Setup & differences →
03Code Snippets · JSON

Quick Edit Featured Image

Manage featured images directly in Quick Edit. Import the JSON into Code Snippets, then activate it explicitly.

v1.4.2 · Administration onlyDownload snippet ↓Setup & differences →
Plugin or snippet — choose one edition.

These snippet editions replace their respective plugins. Update them manually; neither Library nor Updater is included. Import inactive, check the execution context and try them on a test site first. Purify Elementor downloads as a text file: paste it into a PHP snippet manager without duplicating an existing <?php opening tag.

Selection checked on 23 October 2026. Older snippet files for other plugins are not automatically equivalent to their current releases.

WHEN AN IDEA GROWS BEYOND ITS PLUGIN

Snippets QuickNav became part of Code Snippets.

In early 2026, the makers of Code Snippets officially integrated the idea behind my Snippets QuickNav plugin. Seeing my work live on there made me especially happy. I then discontinued the standalone plugin: its purpose now had a home in the original tool.

I have used Code Snippets since 2012 and have a partnership with its makers.

02 · 6 PRACTICAL STARTING POINTS

A little code.
Your own twist.

Small extensions for existing plugins. Unlike the snippet editions above, these recipes require the plugin to be active.

These examples were checked against the listed plugin sources. Paste PHP without an opening PHP tag into your snippet manager; adapt custom post types and styling as needed. Load registration early enough for the filters to take effect.

Shortcode Item Updated · v2.3.1

A structured last-updated date

Use ISO dates and semantic HTML by default. Explicit shortcode attributes still take precedence.

PHP · run everywhere · plugin required
View code & sources
add_filter( 'siu_filter_shortcode_defaults', static function ( $defaults ) {
    $defaults['semantic'] = 'yes';
    $defaults['date_format'] = 'iso';
    return $defaults;
} );

Shortcode Item Updated · v2.3.1

Give the update date a wrapper

Add a CSS class for styling while leaving plain-text output unchanged. Style the wrapper with your own CSS.

PHP · run everywhere · plugin required
View code & sources
add_filter( 'siu_filter_shortcode_item_updated', static function ( $output, $atts ) {
    if ( 'text' === strtolower( $atts['output'] ) ) {
        return $output;
    }
    return '<div class="update-note">' . $output . '</div>';
}, 10, 2 );

Post Author Taxonomy · v1.4.2

Authors for your custom post types

Register the author taxonomy for “book” as well. The post type must already exist; this example does not create it. Prefer the plugin’s settings for ordinary configuration.

PHP · everywhere · register before init · plugin required
View code & sources
add_filter( 'pat/taxonomy/post-types', static function ( $types ) {
    $types[] = 'book';
    return array_values( array_unique( $types ) );
} );

Bricks QuickNav · v2.0.2

Hide the child-theme toolbar entry

Remove only the child-theme entry from the Bricks toolbar. All other navigation remains available. Useful as a site-wide configuration.

PHP · administration only · plugin and Bricks required
View code & sources
add_filter( 'ddw/quicknav/bricks_child_theme', '__return_false' );

Builder Shortcode Extras · v1.3.2

Opt into builder shortcodes in the admin

Explicitly allow the plugin’s shortcodes to run in the administration area. Enable only when your admin view needs this and the referenced content belongs there.

PHP · administration only · plugin required · advanced
View code & sources
add_filter( 'bse/filter/shortcodes_in_admin', '__return_true' );

03 · OPEN SOURCE · GPL

Build better together.
