The person behind the plugins

Hi, I’m David.

I’m David Decker. I have worked with WordPress since 2006 and released my own plugins since 2011. My tools start where everyday work needs a solution that is missing, or where a good idea could be made a little better.

A friend. An idea. Two plugins.

It started with a question.

A friend needed a way to navigate between posts. His request led to Genesis Single Post Navigation and WP Single Post Navigation. They were my first experience coding my own plugins, even though other plugins were published earlier.

That still says a lot about how I work: a practical request sets an idea in motion. Sometimes I build something from scratch; sometimes I find a small plugin that I want to improve and extend. What matters is that it helps with everyday work.

2010↓today

A connection that has lasted.

Genesis has been with me since 2010.

All my client websites used to run on Genesis. Today, I still maintain one client website built with it. Genesis is more than an earlier chapter for me: it remains part of my WordPress work.

People in the Genesis community used my plugins around the world. Many of my early releases grew out of that community. In 2026, I renewed two of them after a longer maintenance gap: Genesis Widgetized Not Found & 404 and Genesis Widgetized Footer.

Communities & collaboration

New tools. New connections.

I have also worked with page builders since 2017, particularly Elementor until around 2022. The tools and their communities inspired further plugins. Collaboration is part of that story too: I developed Connect Polylang Elementor together with Brad Johnson.

Not every idea needs to remain a standalone plugin forever. Some projects are handed over, while other features find a home in the original product. Those paths belong to my plugin story too.

Fewer detours since 2011

A common thread: the WordPress toolbar.

Since 2011, I have explored ways to make frequently needed features easier to reach. The toolbar was still called the Admin Bar back then, and many people still use that name today.

From the early toolbar extensions through Toolbar Extras to today’s QuickNav plugins, the idea is similar: less searching, fewer detours and a quicker route to the task at hand.

What my plugins have in common

The best ideas come from practical work.

My plugins address tasks I encounter myself or while working with clients. They aim to speed up a workflow, simplify something or fill a gap. Client work often provides the best ideas.

There are personal projects too, such as Türchenzeit. My Advent calendar brings together your own stories and content, the anticipation of Christmas and my roots in the Erzgebirge region.
